China said on Wednesday that the United States should end its attacks and its accusations without justification against Beijing, accusing US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo of create a political confrontation for bad faith and to defame the country.

On Tuesday (6), Pompeo visited Japan and asked for more collaboration from the country, India and Australia as a counterpoint to China’s growing regional influence.

“Pompeo fabricated lies against China repeatedly and created a political confrontation out of bad faith“, Said the Chinese embassy in Japan in a statement. “Once again, we appeal to the United States to abandon their Cold War mentality and ideological prejudice, to stop unjustified attacks and accusations against China and to treat relations with China in a constructive manner. ”

Pompeo’s visit to East Asia, his first in more than a year, coincides with worsening US tensions with China. The world’s two largest economies are in shock in several areas, from the way Beijing handled the coronavirus to the new security law it imposed on Hong Kong and Chinese ambitions in the South China Sea.

Pompeo’s cry for the Quad countries – USA, Japan, India and Australia – to form a united front against China’s growing influence is a sensitive issue for US partners, who depend on China in trade.
